About Dr. Scott Mist
Dr. Scott Mist has been practicing acupuncture since 1999, and for most of that time his focus has been narrow and deliberate: chronic pain. Patients who come to Cascade Mist Acupuncture are often people who have already tried several other approaches for fibromyalgia, chronic low back pain, sciatica-type nerve pain, TMJ disorder, or chronic pelvic pain — and are looking for care shaped by both clinical experience and research, not just tradition alone.
That combination is what sets his practice apart. Dr. Mist holds a PhD in Systems Science from Portland State University and a Master of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine. Dr. Mist has been trained in five different traditions of acupuncture which allows him to quickly change treatments as your symptoms change.
Since 2000, his research — continuously funded by the NIH/NCCAM — has examined how Traditional Chinese Medicine interventions perform for conditions involving central sensitization, and has produced numerous peer-reviewed manuscripts, including a randomized controlled trial of acupuncture for women with fibromyalgia published in Pain Medicine, a study on TCM diagnostic patterns in women with fibromyalgia in Acupuncture in Medicine, and an overview of TCM approaches to fibromyalgia in Practical Pain Management.
Alongside his clinical practice, Dr. Mist has held faculty positions at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), the University of Arizona, Oregon College of Oriental Medicine, and National University of Natural Medicine, and currently serves as an adjunct professor in the Department of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Medicine at OHSU.
What that means for patients at Cascade Mist is simple: your treatment plan isn't guesswork dressed up as tradition. It's built on decades of hands-on clinical experience with exactly the kinds of pain conditions that are hardest to treat, informed by research Dr. Mist has spent his career conducting himself — but still shaped, first and foremost, by your own history, symptoms, and goals.
